My latest project is open to the public at VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Arts, Carlow from now until May 18th.
This project was developed in response to the themes during the Spring 2025 exhibition season – Cinders of the Wreck by Dominique White, Open Ground by Carol Rhodes, Between A Rock And A Hard Place by Deirdre O’Mahony and This is how I say yes by Holly Márie Parnell. Themes of landscape and memory are woven throughout these exhibitions, forming the conceptual bedrock for this interactive installation.
I developed this interactive exhibition as part of my role as Learning Curator at VISUAL. It was made collaboratively with the team of facilitators Mary Jo Gilligan and Marian Balfe and the team of technicians at VISUAL – I owe them a massive thank you in making my vision a reality!
This interactive exhibition is free to visit during gallery opening hours and is designed for all ages. Using stones to explore storytelling, landscape and time, I invite you to step into an imagined world where a stone becomes a central character in shaping the world around it.
Using the materials that you find combined with your imagination and your senses, can you draw or create a world to tell the story?
All you need to do is:
🪨 Have a sit in the landscape and play with the materials you find.
🪨 Choose a stone from the ground and hold it in your hand.
🪨 Respond to the prompts written on the wall to connect with the character of your stone and create its story.
You can tell the story of your stone and the landscapes that you have imagined. Displaying your stone on the black wall, draw around it to show the world that you have created – using your imagination journey far and wide with your stone.
Moving through misty mountains, sweeping seas, roaring rivers, flowing fields, familiar back-gardens, bustling towns – following anywhere a stone might go. Listening and sensing, if your stone could talk what would it say?
So please come and visit, have a sit and play… If you feel called to, please make a photo of your creation and share it.
